An Amazing Life – Living With Purpose

Pastor Cory continued in our “An Amazing Life” series and talked about how Christ has called us to be creators of life rather than people of destruction and brokenness. The common thread in our world is that we need to make it about us to survive. The common thread in Christianity is making it about Christ. Our purpose is to be a light to this broken world. We are to stand as living testimonies of the grace of Christ.

Key Verses:

For it’s by God’s grace that you have been saved. You receive it through faith. It was not our plan or our effort. It is God’s gift, pure and simple. You didn’t earn it, not one of us did, so don’t go around bragging that you must have done something amazing. For we are the product of His hand, heaven’s poetry etched on lives, created in the Anointed, Jesus, to accomplish the good works God arranged long ago. -Ephesians 2:8-10 (The Voice Translation)

Key Questions:
1. Have there been times you’ve made your relationship with Christ all about you?
2. Do you ever feel pressured to know your specific “calling” in every season?
3. What can you do to bring glory to Christ in your job, home, and church?

We Are by Kari Jobe

Every secret, every shame
Every fear, every pain
Live inside the dark
But that’s not who we are
We are children of the day

So wake up sleeper, lift your head
We were meant for more than this
Fight the shadows conquer death
Make the most of the time we have left

We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
We are the light of the world
We are the city on a hill
We are the light of the world
We gotta, we gotta, we gotta let the light shine
Let the light shine, let the light shine

We are called to the spread the news
Tell the world the simple truth
Jesus came to save, there’s freedom in His Name
So let His love break through

An Amazing Life – Our Inheritance in Christ

This week Zach focused on the first chapter of Ephesians and the inheritance we receive in Christ. When we become followers of Christ we receive an inheritance in this life and in the “life to come.” Zach explored the idea of our inheritance as something that we can live into right now rather than waiting until we get to heaven. This idea of an “amazing life” isn’t something based on monetary success or a life of comfort. As children of God, we all are inheritors of His kingdom and we should celebrate that in the here and now.

 Key Verses:

18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. -Ephesians 1:18-19b (NIV)

Key Questions:
1. Zach compared waiting for heaven to trying to sleep on Christmas Eve. Are you excited about heaven? Are you excited to be infinitely in the presence of God? (If you say no, I may be worried)
2. What does it mean to celebrate our inheritance now?

An Amazing Life – God as the Center
This Sunday Pastor Cory kicked off our new series An Amazing Life. He explained that we are invited to live a profound life centered and rooted in Christ. Often times God serves as the means to an end in our lives (i.e. we need God to have a better marriage; we need God for a successful career). Though this may be true, Pastor Cory challenged us to make God the center of our lives, so that all we do flows from Him.

Key Verses:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. -Ephesians 1:3-8 (ESV)

Key Questions:
1. What do you want?
2. What does it mean to have an “amazing life?”
3. In what ways have you placed God as the means to an end in your life?
